Biography
Zehra Ahmed R.P.A.-C., M.B.B.S., is a member of the School of Health Profession’s Community Outreach Committee, and serves as faculty associate for NYIT’s Center for Global Health and Center for Gerontology and Geriatrics, among other initiatives.
Ahmed’s research involves developing assessment techniques for cultural competency and using simulations to assess participants’ learning during a workshop on cultural competency training.
Prior to joining NYIT in 2007, Ahmed worked in the emergency department at Mercy Medical Center and the nuclear medicine department at Montefiore Medical Center. She is a registered physician in Sri Lanka, and worked in clinics and hospitals in the country. She is certified in the following areas: advanced life support in obstetrics, advanced cardiac life support, basic cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, basic disaster life support, fundamental critical care life support, New York State Child Abuse & Neglect Recognition, and New York State Infection Control and Barrier Precautions.
Fluent in English and Singhalese, with competence in Spanish and Urdu, Ahmed received her bachelor’s degree in physician assistant studies at NYIT in 2004. She earned her bachelor’s degree of medicine and surgery from the University of Kelaniya in Sri Lanka, which is equivalent to a medical degree in the United States. She also received her bachelor’s degree in biology from Adelphi University.
