Biography
Veronica Southard, P.T., D.H.Sc., G.C.S., has been a full-time faculty member at NYIT since 1998. She is a Certified Exercise Expert for Aging Adults (CEAA), and is also certified in geriatrics and wound care management.
As an award-winning researcher, Southard is currently involved in different projects such as the effects of whole body vibration in patients with Parkinson’s disease, and managing congestive heart failure in the home, as well as other ongoing research.
Southard is vice chair of the American Physical Therapy Association Geriatric Section on Health Promotion and Wellness, peer reviewer for the Journal of Geriatric Physical Therapy, and a member of the Geriatric Faculty Associates Committee. She is active in many committees at NYIT, participates in charitable events on campus, and leads presentations at national conferences.
In addition to her responsibilities at NYIT, Southard works as a physical therapist at Nursing Sisters Home Visiting Service and is a contract physical therapist at Visiting Nurse Association of Long Island. She also provides pro bono service as a physical therapist and safety consultant at the Doubleday Babcock Senior Center.
Southard received her Ph.D. in health sciences from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences, advanced master’s degree in physical therapy from Long Island University, and bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from Hunter College.
