Biography
Oren Shtayermman, Ph.D., heads the Department of Interdisciplinary Health Sciences, oversees the mental health counseling program, and serves as a research associate to the Vocational Independence Program at NYIT.
Shtayermman is currently involved in research exploring prescription stimulants used to enhance academic performance in healthcare programs; suicide among college students and adolescents and young adults diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome; and stress and marital satisfaction among parents caring for a child diagnosed with autism.
Before joining NYIT in 2008, Shtayermman taught at Rhode Island College, Columbia University, and Fordham University.
He worked as a social worker at Louise Wise Services, Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Hospital, and other agencies in New York and Israel.
Shtayermman is a licensed social worker in New York and New Jersey, and is active in many professional organizations. He is fluent in English and Hebrew, with conversational knowledge of Arabic, Spanish, and French. He served in the Israeli Defense Force for five years.
He received a Ph.D. in social work from Fordham University, master of social work from New York University, and bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Haifa in Israel.
