NYIT Dean of Engineering Honors Program

The four-year honors program gives qualified students an enhanced undergraduate experience in the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences with everything from leadership development opportunities and cutting-edge research, to special events, focused career planning, and internships.

The honors program was created for all qualified students in the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences:

  • to broaden and enrich the academic experience
  • to create an environment of excellence and excitement
  • to put students on the path for success

Students will be invited into the Dean of Engineering Honors Program upon acceptance into the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences. Students who have demonstrated strong academic achievement will be considered for the program.

Students in the honors program will experience the following opportunities:

Leadership Seminars
Special leadership seminars are designed to expose the honors students to modern technical and social issues and challenges, as presented by industry leaders and guest speakers.

Undergraduate Research
Honors students are given the opportunity to engage in undergraduate, cutting-edge research and scholarship under advisement of the school’s faculty.

Early Acceptance into the Master’s Degree
Students will be guaranteed early acceptance into the new Accelerated Path to the Master’s Degree (APMD) program which is designed exclusively for SoECS undergraduate honors students. Students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.4 in order to qualify. In this program, honors students can take two graduate-level courses in their senior year toward their master’s program of choice within the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences, and at no cost to them (should the 3 credits fall within the 17-credit maximum allocation). Students enrolled in this program will be able to earn two degrees (B.S. and M.S.) within five years.
