Admission to the option leading to certification as an Educational Technology Specialist is open only to certified teachers.
The non-certification option is open to educators who are not certified in New York State and others who have a bachelor's degree and interest in instructional technology.
Candidates in both options must have a baccalaurate degree and 3.0 undergraduate GPA to qualify for admission into the program. In addition, they must demonstrate proficiency in basic uses of classroom technology. In the event that they do not have these skills, program faculty will recommend appropriate prerequisite courses to be taken before beginning the program of study.
Computer requirements: NYIT has established minimum requirements for computer ownership/availability. All School of Education students are encouraged to purchase wireless laptop computers consistent with the NYIT guidelines. Candidates should be familiar with basic productivity tools including word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software.
Students should have basic computer background knowledge in order to enroll in the MSIT programs. You must also have access to a computer and the Internet.
