Step-by-Step Application Process

1. Visit NYIT Troops to Teachers

Before you do anything else, read through the material on these pages carefully. It should provide you with everything you need to know.

2. Check Your Eligibility
Applicants to the program must meet a number of eligibility requirements in order to be considered. Make sure you’re eligible.
There are two things that you must check for eligibility for the Troops to Teachers in Childhood Education.

• Eligibility for the Troops to Teachers program found at http://www.proudtoserveagain.com.
• Your eligibility to be admitted to the Childhood Education program at New York Institute of Technology.

3. Apply
Apply online today! Applying is easy with our online application. The completed online application form requires general contact information, as well as information about undergraduate coursework and GPA. It is possible for you to begin an online application, save the initial information entered, and return at a later time to complete and submit full materials. Candidates may also print out the application form and mail it to the address on the form.

A complete application includes the following:

• Personal Statement
• Online Application or Print Application Form
• 2 Letters of Recommendation
• Immunization Form
• $50 Application Fee
• Official copies of all undergraduate and graduate transcripts
• Evidence of having a passing score on the Liberal Arts and Sciences Test (LAST) of the New York State Teacher Certification Examination. (Candidate may be conditionally admitted pending score)

4. Interview
Applicants demonstrating potential will be invited to participate in an interview event. This interview may be done electronically in some cases.
