Denis Huisman

President and Founder, Groupe EDH
Doctor of Letters

Denis Huisman is a leading international educator and distinguished lecturer, author, and television producer. He is founder and president of Groupe EDH, a higher education group of schools in France, with international programs in Asia, Europe, North America, and Africa.

Under his stewardship, Groupe EDH has grown from a lone school of communications—known as l’école des métiers de la communication (EFAP)—founded in Paris in 1961, to a group of schools specializing in management, photography, and journalism. These schools provide personalized education, professional development, and study-exchange programs through an international network of which NYIT is a partner.

In addition, Huisman was the scientific director of the University Paris-Dauphine and tenured professor at the University of Paris-Sorbonne.A sought-after orator, he has lectured at New York University, Boston University, UCLA, University of Southern California, and Stanford University, as well as at the French Institute of London.

Born and raised in Paris, Huisman holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, master’s degree in letters, and state doctorate in letters, and began his career teaching philosophy in Paris high schools. An avid philosophy scholar, he has been a member of various French and American aesthetics and philosophy organizations since the 1950s.

Huisman has penned articles for niche magazines such as La Revue Internationale de Philosophie and has produced programming for French television to introduce philosophical topics to viewers, including some 50 broadcasts during the 1970s for the station TF1. He also has collaborated with publishing companies to direct collections and works such as the 2009 edition of Le Dictionnaire des Philosophes, and is director and founder of an association for French literature publishers, the Société Civile de L’Edition Littéraire Française, which includes 50 of the most influential literature publishing companies.

Huisman’s contributions to education have garnered recognition from his peers. He is an honorary member and/or recipient of a dozen meritorious distinctions, including the prestigious Vermeil Medal from his native city of Paris.
