Student Film Festival Submissions

The NYIT-NUPT Student Film Festival will feature short film screenings drawn from submissions from international student filmmakers.

Submission Information:

Short narrative and computer animation are the two major categories of the event. Films may be produced by individual students or groups of students from a recognized university.

(1) Narrative (5-15 minutes in length)

  • Films must tell a story in a narrative form with identifiable characters.
  • Screening of films will occur Saturday, April 21.
  • Finalist screening competition, featuring screen trailers, will be held on Saturday evening, April 21.
  • Films presented in a language other than English must have clearly visible English subtitles.

(2) Computer Graphics/Animation (1.5-8 minutes in length)

  • Films must be created using computer animation software.
  • Films must have a clear story OR theme.
  • Screening of films will occur Saturday, April 21.
  • Finalist screening competition will be held on Saturday evening, April  21.

Additional Submission Criteria for ALL films:

  • All films and animated shorts submitted within the People’s Republic of China must be submitted in DVD or flash disk format. Please note that DVDs and flash disks will not be returned after submission, regardless of whether they are accepted for the Festival. Submissions may be sent to the following address:

Note on Media Labeling and Shipping: DVDs and flash disks submitted within the People's Republic of China must be clearly labeled with the film title, running time, and contact information, including name, address, and email in English or Chinese.

  • All films and animated shorts submitted from locations outside the People’s Republic of China must be uploaded to vimeo.com for review. Vimeo is a video-sharing website where users can upload, share, and view videos. Once the film has been uploaded, interested participants should send an email notification to Professor Geoffrey Bell at geoffmbell@gmail.com. The email must include the following information:

                         Name(s) of participants

                         Affiliation (if any)

                         Email address

                         Title of film or animated short

                         Brief synopsis of film or animated short (fewer than 200 words)

                         Date uploaded to Vimeo

                         Password to access video (if required, see below)

Films uploaded to Vimeo may be uploaded with restricted access, if desired, or made publicly available. If the filmmaker wishes to restrict viewer access, a password must be provided in the notification email to give the review committee access to the film. 

  • 1080p HD resolution is preferred in all submissions (but not required).
     
  • Scanning type should be progressive scan.
     
  • The content of the films must be appropriate for screening before a large audience.
     
  • Films must have been made after January 2010.

  • The deadline for all film submissions is April 9, 2012

        ***No registration fee is required for the submission of films to this year's Festival.
