David I. Jackson, DHSc, PA –C – American Academy of Physician Assistants – Board of Directors
With over 20 years of experience in the medical industry David Jackson has risen from the ranks of Paramedic in the Albany New York County Sheriffs’ Department to Physician Assistant Emergency Care Center in Glenn Falls and then Academic Faculty and Associate Clinical Professor at PACE University. He is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor at New York Institute of Technology. Presently on the Board of Directors and the 2nd Vice Speaker of the AAPA, D. Jackson has held various positions in the New York State Society of Physicians Assistants including Past President and presently Government Affairs Chair. He obtained his Masters of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska with a specialization in Emergency Medicine and Doctor of Health Science from Nova Southeastern University in Florida.
Ellen Leonhardt, DVM – Animal General VCA, Nassau Animal Emergency Hospital – Medical Director
With 24 years of experience in veterinarian science, 5 as a licensed veterinary technician and 19 as a veterinarian of general practice and emergency medicine, Ellen Leonhardt is the Senior Staff Veterinarian for Nassau Animal Emergency Hospital and Medical Director for Animal General of East Norwich. Dr. Leonhardt received her AAS in Veterinary Technology in 1986 from SUNY Farmingdale, BS in Animal Science, 1988 from Cornell University and Doctor Veterinary Medicine from Ross University in 1993.
Joseph Moy – Walgreen Company – District Pharmacy Supervisor – Long Island
Joseph Moy graduated from St John’s University in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Today he oversees 34 locations with over 500 employees at Walgreen Company Pharmacies. His operation promotes health and wellness. He manages the recruiting, retaining and developing of pharmacist and pharmacy interns in his district.
Evan A. Vieira, DPM – Associated Podiatrists of Roslyn & Huntington – Attending Podiatric Surgeon
Dr. Vieira specializes in reconstructive and cosmetic surgery of the foot. He also works with Diabetic limb salvage and general podiatric medicine. Having completed his three year residency at NSUM - Long Island Jewish Medical Center Dr. Vieira worked at Franklin Hospital, Nassau University Medical Center and Fordham University Department of Athletics. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Syracuse University in 2004 in Molecular Biology and Genetics and became a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from New York College of Podiatric Medicine in 2008.
Johanna Petryki - RPA-C attended St. Joseph’s College and Touro College of Health Sciences Physician Assistant Program. She Is currently a Physician Assistant at JUVA Skin and Laser Center in Manhattan. Jokanna has been out to family and friends as a member of the LGBT community for years now. Navigating the work environment can be a little tricky and can depend upon personal preferences regarding being out amongst coworkers. Johanna will speak about her own experience as identifying as an OUT lesbian in the workplace.
Marion Viray- is currently a stay-at-home dad enjoying his 17 month old daughter. He graduated from San Diego State University (SDSU) with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. He moved to New York City to pursue a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology at New York University. He has worked for various universities in New York City as well as major corporations such as Bloomberg LP and Moody’s Corporation. At Moody’s Corporation, he was the Global Diversity Specialist. Marion started the first “Out in the Workplace” consortium, October 2008.
Alex Gant- is the Conference and Operations Manager at “Out for Work”. She graduated in May 2008 from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia with a Bachelor’s degree in History. As Conference and Operations Manager, Alex organizes the Annual National OUT for Work LGBTQA College Student Career Conference. She also works with college and universities career centers and LGBTQ resource centers and student organizations throughout the year to keep them informed on “OUT for Work” events, programs. She has presented at numerous National and Regional LGBTQ conferences.
Roddrick Colvin,PhD-is an associate professor in the Department of Public Management at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. In addition to his interests in employment policy, he is also interested in gay rights, hate crimes, and international human rights policies. He is the author of the recently published book, Gay and Lesbian Cops: Diversity and Effective Policing.
Michael McCue- is an Associate at Morgan Stanley and Company working for the Brokerage Clearing and Exchange group with in Financial Controls, focusing on Firm Commodities Brokerage spending. Prior to Morgan Stanley I worked for a Commodities Brokerage shop that specialized in Fuel Oil. I graduated from St Lawrence University (Canton, NY) in 2000 with a Bachelors of Arts. I’m also a volunteer for Everybody Wins! USA and play Ice Hockey on one of the NYCGHA teams.
The moderator is Michael Schiavi-professor of English and coordinator of English as a Second Language at NYIT Manhattan Campus. He also teaches courses in Pace University's new Queer Studies minor. He received his Ph.D. in English and American Literature from New York University. His articles have appeared in Cinema Journal, Theatre Journal, Modern Drama, and College Literature.
Last year he published a biography titled Celluloid Activist: The Life and Times of Vito Russo, and he appears in the HBO documentary VITO as Russo's biographer.
