NYIT's domestic alternative break program "Service in the City," June 15-20.
You and a small group of your peers will explore New York together, learning about and engaging with the diverse cultures and communities in which NYIT operates. In addition to cultural excursions, you will be serving alongside your peers in various community based projects throughout NYC's five boroughs (Manhattan, the Bronx, Staten Island, Brooklyn, and Queens).
The theme of this trip is Environmental Awareness and Sustainability, thus the projects may pertain to park restoration, community gardens, nutrition and urban farming.
All selected participants will stay at NYIT’s Loeb Residence Hall, located at 135 E. 12th Street in Manhattan. Participants will share a double room in a facility fully supervised by full-time, professionally trained staff of the Office of Housing and Residential Life, as well as resident assistants. The program cost is $200 per participant, which includes room and board, transportation, and activity fees. The only accommodation you will be required to cover is the cost of food for the week. Some meals and snacks will be provided.
