The highest-paid jobs available to NYIT students are community service positions, and they are excellent for building your résumé and job experience. Some of the non-profit agencies our students have worked for include the Public Service Corps, Peace Games, and the YMCA. See our job listings (link to:)for current openings.
Community service positions are paid through the federal work-study program. Work-study is a form of financial aid and is awarded by the federal government. To receive work-study funds, you must file a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and indicate that you would like to be considered for work-study. You must be enrolled at least half time and meet the government’s need-based eligibility requirements.
This funding is available only to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. International students should consider student aide or graduate assistantship positions.
NYIT’s Office of Financial Aid determines if you qualify for a work-study award and the amount. You earn that amount working on campus or at an off-campus non-profit or community service agency. When you have earned all the money allotted to you, you must stop working immediately. Work-study jobs run from July 1 through June 30. Visit the Office of Student Employment (OSE) to find out if you are eligible to work July through August.
If you are awarded work-study, you must visit the Office of Student Employment by the first week in October so that your award is not canceled.
