First-Year M.B.A. Student Wins Business Prize

June 8, 2015

NYIT-Abu Dhabi M.B.A. student Abeer Dimasi (Class of 2016) was honored as the grand prize winner at a recent business competition sponsored by Dubai's Amity University in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.). Dimasi analyzed the impact of Dubai's Expo 2020 on the U.A.E. economy, a project she originally completed for her NYIT corporate finance class taught by Associate Professor Ravichandran Krishnamurthy, Ph.D., who called Dimasi "an example of commitment and courage."

More than 100 students entered "Expo 2020: Students' Aspirations 2015" in three categories: paper presentations, posters, and case analyses. Dimasi earned first prize in the last category for her business case analysis. She also won the grand prize because her work was judged the best among all three categories, meaning that Dimasi took home 10,000 U.A.E. dirham ($2,750 U.S. dollars).

"Students of NYIT's M.B.A. and B.S.B.A. programs have always been encouraged to work on business plans, research papers, and projects that enhance their critical thinking and analytical skills," said Assistant Dean Gantasala V. Prabhakar, Ph.D.

Prior to her graduate work, Dimasi, who is also the mother of six daughters, ran a family business. "I participated in the competition to experience something different," she said. "I'm passionate about learning and appreciate the hard work of my professors to enrich my knowledge."
