Astoria Bank President and CEO Named to Board of Trustees at NYIT

Monte N. Redman (B.S. ’81), president and chief executive officer of Astoria Bank, is the newest member of NYIT’s board of trustees, and the most recent alumnus of the university to contribute his expertise to help strategically guide the university as it enters its 60th year.

Redman’s career in the financial services industry spans nearly 40 years. He joined Astoria in 1977 and has served in accounting, investment, treasury, and senior management positions. “Monte’s professional experience in the broad areas of financial services, managing and growing lines of business and leveraging technology, will be valuable complements to our board expertise,” said NYIT President Edward Guiliano, Ph.D. “We take great pride in the professional success and commitment to community service of our alumni, and know that Monte will offer strategic guidance for the university as well as serve as an effective role model for our students.”  

Astoria appointed Redman as chief executive officer and elected him to its board of directors on July 1, 2011. Since then, he has established a strong, seasoned business banking team and bolstered the bank’s focus on multi-family and commercial real estate lending. In 2014, he oversaw the organization's rebranding to Astoria Bank, reflecting its extensive range of offerings for a diverse, expanded customer base.

Redman is an active member of the board of directors for the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York and the New York Bankers Association, addressing issues of importance to the New York banking community. He is also a member of the American Bankers Association’s American Bankers Council.

In addition, he is a director and former chairman of the board of the Tourette Association of America (TA). Under his leadership, the TA helped to influence legislation, furthered education, and supported cutting-edge research. His work in the community has also been recognized by such organizations as St. Francis College, SCO Family of Services, Queens Botanical Garden, Queens Council Boy Scouts of America, and Queens Theatre in the Park.
