Office of Academic Affairs Awards Faculty More than $200K in Internal Grants

June 15, 2016

Bioengineering, cancer research, molecular genetics, urban planning, cybersecurity, poetry, and digital holography are among the areas of faculty research and creativity that will be supported by NYIT’s Institutional Support of Research and Creativity (ISRC) and Teaching and Learning Technology (TLT) Grants in the coming year.

On June 10, the Office of Academic Affairs announced the award of 26 grants, in excess of $200,000, to tenure and tenure-track faculty for research projects, creative activities, and the preparation of a major (large-budget) external grant proposals, or to support innovative uses of technology to enhance teaching and learning.

“This year’s awardees represent all seven schools and colleges of NYIT and demonstrate the breadth of expertise among our faculty,” said NYIT Provost Rahmat Shoureshi. He added that of the 41 applications received, nearly two-thirds were awarded grants following a peer review by an eight-member faculty committee.

The ISRC-TLT programs have, in recent years, emphasized cross-disciplinary scholarship, especially projects involving multiple principal investigators, and projects engaging junior and senior faculty as well as NYIT students.

Grant awards, typically in the range of several thousand dollars, are administered by the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research and help pay for project costs including materials and supplies, student salaries, travel, and release time from teaching duties.
