NYIT’s News Channels—All in One Place

November 9, 2016

There’s a new way to find all the latest intel about NYIT—from news and op-ed placements, to videos and social media, to research and faculty/staff accomplishments.

The Office of Communications and Marketing recently launched nyit.edu/news—a digital “newsroom” that aggregates all of NYIT’s communication channels in one place.

“With so many great things happening at the university, we wanted a single location where users could easily access up-to-date information,” said Nancy Donner, vice president for Communications and Marketing. “Think of it as your one-stop-shop for all the news, media, and stories about NYIT.”

In addition to featuring core editorial channels, including NYIT Magazine, faculty/staff accomplishments, and The Box, the site also incorporates multimedia channels. For the first time, users can explore NYIT's vast catalog of videos all in one place. The new channel is a completely searchable archive of the latest videos featuring student work, faculty experts, events and conferences, and other stories that tie to NYIT's DNA. By using the filter, users can find videos about a certain audience (such as students or alumni), category (such as student work or campus life), and even a specific school or program. A link at the bottom of each video makes them easy to share.

As for social networking, accessing the Social Media channel takes you to an aggregate of all of NYIT's main social media accounts, including for the university, schools, and other key areas.

As print and broadcast newsrooms shrink, an institution’s ability to have its media-worthy content at the fingertips of inquiring journalists has never been so vital. “This new site will support our goal to build the reputation of NYIT and position our faculty and staff members as leaders in their fields,” said Libby Sullivan, director of media relations.

The site is one more feature of the redesigned nyit.edu, which launched in February 2016 and continues to evolve to meet the needs of the NYIT community. The website recently won two W3 Silver awards (which recognizes creative excellence on the web and the creative and marketing professionals behind award winning sites, videos, and marketing programs) in the “Home Page” and “Structure and Navigation” categories.

“I’m happy to see that the good work we did to show people what NYIT is all about has been recognized by the larger industry,” said John Roleke, director of digital media. “It is particularly gratifying to win in the homepage and navigation categories—two areas we sweated over during the redesign process.”
