Meet Roary—New York Tech’s New Mascot

The ballots are in. Nearly 1,000 students, faculty, and alumni cast their vote to name New York Tech’s new bear mascot.

Roary came out on top with 557 votes among the three finalists in the name-the-bear contest. Alex was the runner-up with 273 votes, followed by Victor E. with 133.

Roary, in a new costume, officially debuted on September 21 at the 2019 Homecoming and Family Weekend. In June, New York Tech Athletics revealed a new logo featuring a fierce, roaring bear. The logo is another evolution in New York Institute of Technology’s new brand identity.

The previous bear costume—a nameless bear with brown fur—has been sent to an animal sanctuary.
