Sayed "Javed" Ahmad is an adjunct professor of computer science at New York Institute of Technology in Vancouver, British Colmbia. After completing his Associate of Science in Computer Science at LaGuardia Community College of the City University of New York (CUNY) in 1991; he moved to Canada and completed his Bachelor of Technology in Information Technology at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) in 2002. Then he completed his M.B.A. in Digital Technology Management at Royal Roads University (RRU) in 2006. He also completed a Master of Public Affairs in Governance and Public Policy at the University of Dhaka in 2008. He could not complete his Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of Utara Malaysia (UUM), however, because of COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns and later moved back to Canada in 2021.

He has been in the corporate world as well as teaching for some time. He was an assistant professor and head of the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology at Southern University of Bangladesh for a few years. Currently, he is teaching as an adjunct/sessional faculty at the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) in the School of Computing, Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) at Melville School of Business, and Yorkville University-B.C. Campus at the School of Business.

He also has served as the chief executive officer of the Bangladesh Rating Agency Limited (BDRAL), a subsidiary of Dun & Bradstreet (D&B) from 2014 to 2021. Before that, he was the chief operating officer at the Central Depository Bangladesh Limited (CDBL) from 2009 to 2014. He also served as the country officer for the International Federation of Global & Green Information Communication Technology (IFGICT) in Bangladesh.

Recent Projects and Research

  1. He is involved as the chief operating officer at the Centuries of Leadership Development Inc. in Delta, B.C., where he is promoting their technical leadership training programs, namely their Electrical Test Engineering (ETE) program.
  2. He is an enlisted independent consultant at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP), Bangkok, Thailand, where he has completed a research paper on: "Role of Credit Reporting Service Providers (CRSP) in facilitating access to credit to Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) in the Asia-Pacific region" for their SME-related training program.

  • A thesis-based research paper entitled "The State of Governance in Bangladesh: Problems and Prospects" was published at the University Library of Munich, Germany, in its series MPRA Paper with number 9292.
  • A condensed version of the thesis "Good Governance in Bangladesh: A Quest for a Non-Political Party Approach" has been published in the Journal of Politics and Law, Volume 2, Number 4, December 2009, ISSN 1913-9047 (Print) ISSN 1913-9055 (Online), published by the Canadian Center of Science and Education (CCSE).
  • A revised version of the above paper has been included in chapter 11 of the book "Democracy and Civil Society in a Global Era" published in 2016 by Routledge, Taylor & Francis Group.
  • The paper entitled "Investigating the Use of Geographical Information System (GIS) and Spatial Information System (SIS) in Developing an Intelligent Transport System (ITS)" was accepted for WORLDCOMP'07 conference of the 2007 World Congress in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Applied Computing, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA (June 25–28, 2007).
  • The same paper was accepted for a poster (interactive presentation) at the CRSS/ASPRS Fall 2007 Conference, October 28–November 1, 2007, held at the Westin Ottawa Hotel in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The conference was organized by Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique, and co-organized by The Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute (CASI), The American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS), and the Canadian Remote Sensing Society (CRSS).
  • The paper entitled "Use of Geographical Information System (GIS) in Developing an Intelligent Transport System (ITS)" was accepted as a Regular Research Paper (RRP) for the WORLDCOMP'08 Artificial Intelligence (AI) conference of the 2008 World Congress in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Applied Computing, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
  • The paper entitled "Exploring the Possible Use of Electronic Information Systems (EIS)" was accepted as a Short Research Paper (SRP) for WORLDCOMP'08 E-Commerce and E-Governance conference of the 2008 World Congress in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Applied Computing, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
  • 1st Annual Quality Convention on Education, September 15–16, 2006, Dhaka, Bangladesh: Attended as a convenor of the convention and presented a paper on "Accreditation: A quick review".
  • As a part of the degree completion requirement, published a paper entitled, "Total e-Governance: Pros & Cons" at IEEE Xplore, 2018.
