Steve Christianson
On Sept. 6, 2006, New York Institute of Technology’s (NYIT) Department of Athletics announced Stephen Christianson as the newly appointed head softball coach. Christianson came to NYIT from The Baseball Center New York City, where he served as head baseball and softball instructor.
Prior to The Baseball Center, Christianson was associate director of athletics and head softball coach at Trinity University in Washington, D.C. In 2006, he was named Atlantic Women’s Colleges Conference (AWCC) softball coach of the year. In his two seasons at Trinity, Christianson coached four student athletes to First Team All-Conference selections and four to Second Team All-Conference selections, as well as one student athlete to an All-Conference Honorable Mention selection. In 2005, he guided one team member to AWCC Newcomer of the Year and Most Outstanding Player honors.
Before coaching at Trinity, Christianson coached for the nationally recognized softball program at Bishop Denis J. O’Connell High School in Arlington, Va., where he served as head junior varsity coach of the undefeated Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship team. Previously, he coached at St. Agnes High School in St. Paul, Minn, where he lead the softball team to consecutive Tri-Metro Conference championships in 2001 and 2002.
Christianson, a resident of Long Island City, N.Y., earned a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from St. Cloud State University. He has taught at several softball and baseball clinics focusing on hitting, pitching, catching, base running and conditioning. Christianson is a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and National Association of Division III Athletic Administrators.
