Central Islip, N.Y. (March 10, 2010) – NYIT men’s lacrosse senior attackman Matt Sullivan (West Islip, N.Y.) has been named the East Coast Conference men’s lacrosse Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office today. Sullivan broke the Bears' single game assist record as he dished out 11 assists in the Bears 22-3 win over Lake Erie College on Saturday.
Sullivan, who also tied the Bears' record of 12 points in a single game, had a hand the Bears first nine goals, passing out eight assists and netting an unassisted score.
Old Westbury, N.Y. – The NYIT softball team kicks off the 2010 season this at the Rebel Games tournament in Orlando, Fla. The Bears return to the field after posting 37 wins a season ago -- the most victories in a single season by any team in NYIT history -- and placed second in the East Coast Conference tournament.
Head coach Steve Christianson returns a senior laden squad, that will be immediately tested as the Bears face perennial top 25 teams California University (Pa.) on Thursday March 11, and the fourth ranked team in the country, Wayne State (MI.) on Tuesday March 16.
The Bears return to Long Island and open their home schedule against Southern New Hampshire on Saturday, March 20.
The 2010 schedule is highlight by an April 3 double-header against reigning ECC Champions and Northern Boulevard rival C.W. Post, currently ranked 21st in the country.
