OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Nov. 23, 2013) - On a weekend off from competition, the NYIT women’s basketball team did not rest. Instead they gave back to the community at the St. Martin of Tours Thanksgiving Food Drive in Amityville, N.Y. The Bears loaded food into the gym and assisted in the organizing items that were donated. Some of the team serviced the “walk-ups” who were picking up food for their Thanksgiving meal, while others delivered the baskets to families in need. The event provided Thanksgiving dinner to more than 500 families.

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Oct. 25, 2013) - NYIT men’s basketball and softball teams joined foreces with the Gribbin School in Glen Gove, N.Y., for the annual Fall Festival on Oct. 25, 2013. The Bears helped facilitate various game stations for the elementary students from grades K-2. Held the Friday before Halloween, the event featured five athletic-related stations, encouraging exercise and promoting the fall season.

(Oct. 16, 2013) - The NYIT lacrosse team kicked off its annual community service initiatives by lending a helping hand at NYIT's 2013 Vocational Independence Program (VIP) Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 5. The Bears assisted at the Walk-a-thon by passing out water and guiding the participants through the course. The lacrosse team then manned various stations at the Homecoming event that followed.

(April 1, 2013) - At Saturday, March 30's men's lacrosse game against Chestnut Hill, the NYIT Department of Intercollegiate Athletics raised $560 for a scholarship fund for Gavin Quigley, son of Seton Hill head women's lacrosse coach Kristina Quigley, who tragically lost her life in a bus accident this season.

(Feb. 20, 2013) - On Sunday, February 24, the East Coast Conference will hold its Fourth Annual Spirit Showcase in the Brookhaven Gymnasium on the campus of Suffolk County Community College in Selden, N.Y. The showcase will begin at 11 a.m. All proceeds from the event will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Theoni Kyriakoulias of Ronkonkoma, N.Y., was selected at random out of more than 2,000 raffle tickets. (Dec. 17, 2012) - In a season of giving, members of the NYIT Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) visited the pediatric unit at the Nassau University Medical Center on Friday, Dec. 14 to deliver holiday cheer and presents. The Bears donned elves hats and armed themselves with wrapped toys and NYIT Athletics gear to visit children ranging in age from six months to 19-years-old.

Weekly selections are chosen from scheduled games starting from each Friday to the following Thursday. Nominations will take into account notable statistics, weekly awards received and/or personal accomplishments achieved both on and off the playing fields. Coaches who reach career milestones will also be considered for this honor. This week's recipients are Markus Moore (Palo Alto, Calif.) of men’s basketball, Rebecca Romeo (Victoria, Australia) of women’s basketball, and Kayvon Roberts (Corona, N.Y.) of men’s basketball.
