What are the admissions requirements for the College of Osteopathic Medicine's D.O. program?

NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine admissions requirements:

Applicants for first-year class admission must meet the following academic requirements prior to matriculation:

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.
2. A pre-professional science grade point average of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 point scale and an overall grade point average of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 point scale.
3. Completion of an acceptable academic year sequence in English, 6 semester hours of biology including a basic course in general biology or general zoology; 8 semester hours of general chemistry (lecture and laboratory); organic chemistry with two semester hours of laboratory; and physics with two semester hours of laboratory.
4. Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) scores that are not more than three years old. Scores should be reported directly to AACOMAS (Code 600).
5. Fulfillment of technical requirements that intend to ensure that the students can function effectively as an osteopathic physician
6. A willingness to abide by the Honor Code and other standards of professional conduct as described in the College of Osteopathic Medicine student handbook.

 The above are minimum requirements. Applicants are encouraged to enroll in courses such as calculus, comparative anatomy, genetics, physical chemistry, biochemistry, and behavioral and neurosciences. Community and hospital volunteer or professional work is another way by which applicants can demonstrate their interest in the healing profession and express their commitment.

In assessing a candidate for admission, cognitive and non-cognitive factors are considered. In keeping with its philosophy, the College of Osteopathic Medicine evaluates an applicant’s whole record, environment, initiative, and circumstances of each applicant.

The educational process at the College of Osteopathic Medicine relies heavily on modern educational technologies as well as good study and organizational skills of the students. All potential students are expected to prepare themselves accordingly.
