NYIT’s student health insurance plan is changing. Until now, all domestic residential students were automatically enrolled in a two-plan medical insurance program provided through Aetna Student Health. Domestic residential students will be able to opt out of the Basic Sickness and Supplemental Accident and Sickness (Plan 2) portion if they are able to show acceptable proof of other comparable insurance coverage.
Note: NYIT’s student health insurance plan is mandatory for all F-1 and J-1 students. International students cannot waive their NYIT student health insurance coverage, even if they have health insurance in their home country. Non-residential, domestic students can voluntarily enroll in NYIT’s student health insurance plan.
For more information on what is provided in Plan 2, visit the Aetna Student Health Web site at www.aetnastudenthealth.com, click on "Find your school" and type in NYIT.
The cost of the health insurance policy will continue to be automatically charged to students’ bursar accounts. However, once a waiver has been submitted and accepted, the health insurance fee will be credited to your account. Complete the waiver. The waiver application will be accessible for new students at the start of each semester. Please take note of any applicable deadlines.
Please note that you will need your student identification number to complete the waiver application.
