Whatever you call it, the Department of Communication Arts at New York Tech is famous for offering real-world experience, starting with your first semester on campus in the media capital of the world.

At New York Tech, you’ll use state of the art production equipment. You will learn in the classroom, then learn by doing out in the field. You will attend seminars each semester on “hot” topics such as crisis communications, the rise of Internet News, animation and special effects, and audio for films.

You’ll join student-run media organizations such as Globesville, an Internet TV station with correspondents at New York Tech campuses around the world. Or ProdCo, where students generate professional quality media production projects for clients. Or the Carleton Group, a student-led public relations and advertising agency with clients throughout Long Island and beyond. And The Campus Slate, where students gather the news, then position it for print, the web, and Internet TV.

The result? LinkedIn’s report for New York Tech communications students recently included 964 current and former students reporting they are skilled at social media. Another 694 students used their New York Tech education for public relations, 671 used it for marketing, and 633 for advertising.

Other areas where hundreds of New York Tech students said they are skilled include editing and video production, television, broadcasting, event planning, communication marketing and marketing strategy, social networking, and digital media.

Outside the classroom, our students rave about the variety and intensity of the internships taken through New York Tech. Recent internships in New York City and Long Island have included MTV and ABC’s Good Morning America, the United Nations and Saudi Arabian Consulate, NBC Universal and Sirius radio, Donna Karan and Harper’s Bazaar, Seventeen Magazine and EMMIS NYC (BLS, Hot 97, 1190 WLIR).
