Daniel Tarantino’s thesis project, Enero 24 in Caracas, Venezuela, won the student design competition sponsored by the Queens Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The competition was open to students from three schools of architecture within New York City: The City College of New York, Columbia University and New York Institute of Technology.
The thesis investigated the inevitable expansion of informal development in Caracas, Venezuela and how it could be perceived as a vital working element of the city. By creating a new form of development, the stereotypical images of what many people believe makes up the barrios will be altered, allowing these areas to become seamless with the existing urban fabric.
