Giovanni Santamaria, Ph.D., visiting assistant professor of architecture in NYIT's School of Architecture and Design, will give the lecture, "CrosScape. Urbanized Territories and Integrated Methodologies," at the Third International Conference on Urban and ExtraUrban Studies: Spaces and Flows, Oct. 11-12 at Wayne State University in Detroit. The talk will explore his research on a new "urban ecology," where architects approach the planning of cities as fluid, borderless areas integrating infrastructure, urbanism, and agriculture.
Santamaria joined NYIT in 2008. His research focuses on the shift of the urban design perspective toward a more articulated concept of landscape urbanism/architecture concerned with several constructed environments of the post-industrial era, such as ecology, producing lands, pollution, sophisticated technologies, and alternative energy processes. He earned a Ph.D. in Architecture and Urban Design from Politecnico di Milano in Italy, where he received postdoctoral research grants to study and verify “Contemporary Urban Design Complexity Within the Global City Network.”
