NYIT architecture professors and students have launched a kickstarter campaign to raise money for constructing a model of their patented water bottle roofing system, with the goal of raising $32,500 by Thursday, Nov. 15. Architecture faculty members leading the project are associate professor Michele Bertomen and assistant professors Jason Van Nest and Farzana Gandhi. Their efforts began in 2011, when the team designed a Soda Bottle Interface Bracket (short for SodaBIB), a key element of the roofing system, and NYIT later received a provisional patent for it. The team soon realized SodaBIB's potential for business partnerships and providing emergency shelter for people in developing countries. Read more.
