Coming soon in October 2012, NYIT will participate in Archtober, a month-long festival of special tours, lectures, films, and exhibitions on architecture and design in New York City. The events are presented by the American Institute of Architects' New York (AIA NY) Chapter and participating architectural organizations to raise awareness of the importance of architecture and design by involving local communities and encouraging international recognition of New York's built environment. There will be special programs every day of the month and access to many sites and events. NYIT's Archtober events include:
The precursor of Archtober was New York City's Architecture Week founded in 2003, when the AIA NY Chapter opened the doors of its Center for Architecture and Open House New York. Over the years, activities and involvement have increased, and the event has since grown into a month-long celebration joining a larger collective of local architecture and design organizations.
