Archtober in NYC

Coming soon in October 2012, NYIT will participate in Archtober, a month-long festival of special tours, lectures, films, and exhibitions on architecture and design in New York City. The events are presented by the American Institute of Architects' New York (AIA NY) Chapter and participating architectural organizations to raise awareness of the importance of architecture and design by involving local communities and encouraging international recognition of New York's built environment. There will be special programs every day of the month and access to many sites and events. NYIT's Archtober events include:

• Lecture by Ron Altoon - Tuesday, Oct. 9, 6:30 p.m., NYIT de Seversky Mansion, Old Westbury campus (VIP dinner at 5 p.m.) This event will feature the presentation of The FRIENDS of NYIT School of Architecture and Design scholarship awards.
• Thesis Retrospective 1990-2012, Amatuzzo Studio Section - Saturday, Oct. 13 - Sunday, Nov. 11, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Education Hall Center Gallery, Old Westbury campus
• Presentation and Conversation with HOLLER Architecture - Tuesday, Oct. 16, 6 p.m., Axor NYC - Design Studio, 29 Ninth Ave., New York City.
• Lecture by Preston Scott Cohen - Thursday, Oct. 18, 6:30 p.m., NYIT Auditorium on Broadway, Manhattan campus

The precursor of Archtober was New York City's Architecture Week founded in 2003, when the AIA NY Chapter opened the doors of its Center for Architecture and Open House New York. Over the years, activities and involvement have increased, and the event has since grown into a month-long celebration joining a larger collective of local architecture and design organizations.
