NYIT graduate and senior architecture students, along with peers from Politecnico di Milano (Milan, Italy), Cornell University, and Carnegie Mellon University, are working with a national team of architects on a comprehensive plan to develop Staten Island's (N.Y.) underutilized waterfronts. For the last month, the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce has been conducting a survey of local residents titled, "It's a Shore Thing," that will inform the American Institute of Architects Regional/Urban Design Assistance Team (R/UDAT) as they study the area, meet with community representatives, and prepare designs for the borough. School of Architecture and Design Associate Dean Frank Mruk and professors Matthias Altwicker, Fred Bentel, Victor Deupi, John di Domenico, Janet Fink, Mishi Hosono, Yoko Kawai Kurimoto, Michael Schwarting, and Adam Weintraub are overseeing the NYIT students' participation in this multidisciplinary project.
