Get a head start on college with NYIT's Jump Start Advantage summer program, which offers incoming students an opportunity to earn college credits at a reduced cost in a supportive learning environment.
Who can participate?
If you are an accepted first-time student at NYIT (freshman or transfer), you should consider "jump-starting" your education. Note that B.S./D.O. majors and HEOP students are not eligible for Jump Start. New students also need to be registered for the Fall 2013 semester.
What courses are offered?
Any course from NYIT's Summer Session II is available to you providing you have the necessary prerequisites. Our most popular Jump Start courses are:
- FCIQ-101 Foundations of Inquiry
- FCSP-105 Foundations of Speech Communication
- MATH-101 Developmental Mathematics I/II
Please see Search for Sections to look up course schedules and additional course options for Summer Session II.
Where and when are courses offered?
Jump Start is offered both on NYIT's Manhattan and Old Westbury campuses during Summer Session II (July 8, 2013 to August 16, 2013).
Why should you attend?
This is a way to "jump-start" your education by earning college credits as well as learning more about NYIT. Through activities inside and outside the classroom, you will learn about the realities of academic and student life, and begin to obtain the skills necessary to meet the challenges of a successful college experience, including:
- Motivation, persistence, and goal setting
- Cooperative learning through group and class team work
- Socialization to the college environment
Costs: The total cost for two courses (seven credits maximum) is $3,000, plus $100 registration fee.
Savings: The cost of Jump Start Advantage represents a savings of more than $3,000 compared with per credit course costs during a regular semester. Note: Financial aid is not available for the program.
