Who can attend?
If you are an accepted first-year students at NYIT (and NOT a B.S./D.O. major or a transfer student who has 12 or more college credits), you definitely should consider jump-starting your education at NYIT.
What courses are offered?
Foundations of Inquiry (FCIQ 101) - 3 credits
This course introduces you to the fundamentals of critical thinking in the university and in life. Topics include an overview of research methods, basic logic, and fallacies in logic and argumentation. This course serves as a foundation in developing critical thinking skills in other core classes and major program work.
Developmental Mathematics (MATH 101) - 4 credits?
Designed for the accelerated student who has knowledge of algebra and is motivated to finish at a fast pace. Topics include basic operations of signed integers and fractions, factoring, basic operations of algebraic fractions, exponents and radicals, functions and graphs, and equations. This course or its equivalent is a prerequisite for Math 120, 125, 140, or TMAT 135. Prerequisite: diagnostic test or permission of the instructor.
Foundations of Speech Communication (FCSP 105) - 3 credits?
Study the fundamentals of verbal communications including public speaking, interpersonal communication, and small group interaction. Training is included in methods of obtaining and organizing materials and ideas for effective verbal communication. Each student will speak several times to an audience.

Courses are held for five weeks at NYIT's Manhattan and Old Westbury campuses, Tuesday, July 10 - Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012:

Why should you attend?
Of course, this is a way to "jump-start" your education and find out more about NYIT. Through activities inside and outside the classroom, you will learn about the realities of academic and student life, and begin to obtain the skills necessary to meet the challenges of a successful college experience, including:

- Cooperative learning through group and class team work
- Socialization to the college environment
Cost/Savings
Costs: The total cost for the five-week, six- or seven-credit program is $2,250.
Savings: The cost of Jump Start Advantage represents a savings of nearly $2,500 compared with course costs during a regular semester. Note: Financial aid is not available for the program.
