NYIT offers entering first-year students an opportunity to get a head start on college with the five-week Jump Start summer program, which provides a rich academic, social, and personal foundation in a supportive learning environment.

Who can attend?
All accepted first-year students at NYIT (except transfer students who have successfully completed 12 or more college credits). The program is available to all majors except B.S./D.O. Students must submit proof of MMR immunization and have submitted their $400 tuition deposit before enrolling.
What courses are offered?
College Success Seminar (NYIT 101) - 2 credits
The College Success Seminar is aimed at giving new students the tools necessary to make a smooth, successful transition into college. It offers techniques and strategies necessary to successfully manage time, study more effectively, set up an e-mail account, navigate the college campus and utilize available services, and explore career options. Students connect with their peers and begin the socialization process. This course is part of the required core curriculum. It is not required for transfer students who have successfully completed 12 or more college credits.
Developmental Mathematics (MATH 101) - 4 credits
Designed for the accelerated student who has knowledge of algebra and is motivated to finish at a fast pace. Topics include basic operations of signed integers and fractions, factoring, basic operations of algebraic fractions, exponents and radicals, functions and graphs, and equations. This course or its equivalent is a prerequisite for Math 120, 125, 140, or TMAT 135. Prerequisite: diagnostic test or permission of the instructor.
Basic Speech Communication (SPCH 105) - 3 credits
Study the fundamentals of verbal communications including public speaking, interpersonal communication, and small group interaction. Training is included in methods of obtaining and organizing materials and ideas for effective verbal communication. Each student will speak to an audience several times.

Why should you attend?

Costs: The total cost for the five-week, five- or six-credit program is $1,990.
Savings: Jump Start Advantage is provided at a reduced cost to students, representing a savings of nearly $2,500 compared with course costs during a regular semester. Note: Financial aid is not available for the program.
