Room Change

During the Year
Residents are allowed to change rooms during the academic year as long as the request is official and approved. The first opportunity to switch rooms will be the Monday, September 28, the third week after the semester begins. Room changes are performed weekly upon the submission of an online request. Priority is based on review of your specific request, availability of requested room change, and on a first-come, first-serve basis. For safety and security reasons, students must stay in their assigned room until they have been approved to move.

Caution
Moving belongings to the new room prior to your scheduled date may jeopardize your eligibility to live on-campus in the future and may put your personal belongings at risk of being donated to a local charity.

  • Weekly Room Changes for Fall Begin Monday, September 28.
  • Room changes for the Spring semester begin Tuesday, December 1.

Generally, room changes work in the following way:

  • Submit an online Room Change request form to the Office of Residence Life. You will need to use your NYIT ID # and NYIT email and complete the whole form
  • The Office of Residence Life will either contact you directly or forward your email to the right ORL professional.
  • Depending on the nature of the room change request, the Office of Residence Life may follow up with you for further information.
  • Once your request has been reviewed and accepted, the Office of Residence Life will contact you with information about the new room offer. You must accept this offer prior to moving any personal belongings.
  • You will be asked to identify time(s) you are available to complete your move.
  • RA staff from the respective residence hall(s) will be contacted and informed of your room change to assist you. You must completely check-out of your original room and return keys before being assigned keys for your new room assignment. Your original room must also be returned to the condition it was found at the time of your move-in otherwise you may face additional charges from the Office of Residence Life.
