New Student Checklist
Student Solutions Center (SSC)
Before Orientation and Advisement
- Pay admissions deposit.
- Register for Orientation.
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) for New York State Residents (U.S. citizens and permanent residents only).
- Submit final transcripts and proof of degree to NYIT Admissions.
- Submit all immunization forms (MMR) as required by New York State. For more information please contact the Office of Counseling and Wellness.
- Schedule a tour of our residential facilities if you are interested in living on-campus.
During Orientation
- Take Placement Tests (You and your Student Solutions Center Manager will review the results of your placement exams and the requirements of your chosen major).
AP credit: To receive AP credit, you must have achieved a 3 or better on the AP test and an official score report must be received by NYIT from the College Board. (NYIT's code is 2561). - Complete registration with printed schedule. If you have ANY questions before or after you begin classes, please contact the Student Solutions Center at 516.686.7878.
- Get student ID card.
After Orientation
- Set up your NYIT e-mail on NYITConnect. E-mail is NYIT's primary form of communication.
- Review your eBill on NYITConnect. Make sure your financial aid is in order and that any balance is paid prior to the start of the semester.
If you are unsure how to finance your NYIT education, please contact the Student Solutions Center at 516.686.7878 to construct a financial plan. - Complete AlcoholEdu program online.
- Stay connected with your Student Solutions Center Manager - your one stop resource for any questions or assistance you may need at NYIT.
- Review Add/Drop polices. You are permitted to add and drop courses as well as sections during the add/drop period listed in the Academic Calendar, but you must consult with an advisor and complete an Add/Drop Form before the end of the second week of each semester.
