Honors Programs

Honor Societies at NYIT

  • Golden Key International Honour Society: Founded in 1977, Golden Key recognizes college students solely on the basis of their academic achievements and encourages community service and scholarship. NYIT welcomed its first students into Golden Key in 2004, and its active chapter participates in organizing blood drives, toy drives, and other charitable activities.   • Alpha Epsilon Rho (communication arts and broadcasting): Founded in 1941 and sponsored by the National Broadcasting Society, Alpha Epsilon Rho has nearly 100 chapters on college and high school campuses.
  • Delta Mu Delta (business): With a motto of "through knowledge, power," this international honor society was founded in 1913. It recognizes and encourages academic excellence while encouraging lifelong membership.
  • Phi Theta Epsilon (occupational therapy): NYIT is home to the Beta Omega chapter of this national honor society for occupational therapy students.
  • Phi Eta Sigma: The oldest and largest freshman honor society, Phi Eta Sigma was founded in 1923 and has more than 365 chapters with more than 975,000 members. NYIT inducted its first students into Phi Eta Sigma in 2004. To qualify for membership, you must receive a 3.5 or higher GPA during the fall or spring semester of your freshman year.   • Psi Chi (psychology): Founded in 1929 with a mission of encouraging and maintaining excellence in scholarship while advancing the science of psychology, Psi Chi has chapters at more than 1,000 colleges in the United States and Canada. NYIT's Psi Chi chapter charter was established in 1974. For more information, email the Department of Behavioral Sciences chapter advisor at dkarafan@nyit.edu.
  • Tau Alpha Pi (engineering and technology): Founded in 1953, Tau Alpha Pi is open to associate and bachelor degree candidates.
  • Tau Sigma Delta (architecture): NYIT's Gamma Zeta chapter was organized in 1993. For more information, email the School of Architecture and Design at ddumas@nyit.edu.
  • Upsilon Pi Epsilon (computing and information science): This international honor society, established in 1967, recognizes academic excellence at the undergraduate and graduate level.
