This course uses high-interest international content to prepare students for the English academic world, specifically with the EMBA Program at NYIT. The texts and activities encourage students to apply critical thinking skills as they engage in academic reading and writing and listening and speaking tasks across a range of disciplines. Each strand (Reading and Writing, Listening and Speaking) follows a parallel chapter structure that builds from asynchronous online components that include 40 hours of content/lecture and 80 hours of extension/activities.

Students will learn research techniques including identifying reliable sources and discriminating between fact and opinion, and will practice writing a research paper. Throughout the semester, sentence structure and grammar rules will be stressed.
