Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

 

(1) What immunizations are required?

Signed documentation of proof of immunity against Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (German Measles) on or after your first birthday by one of the following means for each disease.

  • Measles:
    Immunization: 2 Injections on or after January 1, 1968 (at least 28 days apart).
    OR: positive titer (copy of lab report required)
  • Mumps:
    Immunization: 1 Injection on or after January 1, 1969.
    OR: positive titer (copy of lab report required)
  • Rubella (German Measles):
    Immunization: 1 Injection on or after January 1, 1969.
    OR: positive titer (copy of lab report required)

(2) How do I prove I have had these immunizations?

You may provide any health records, which demonstrate proof of immunity against Measles, Mumps and Rubella from:

  • Prior Schools (High School or College)
  • Physicians
  • Local Health Department

You must request that your records be released to the New York Institute of Technology.

(4) What do I need to provide for religious and medical exemptions?

Religious exemptions must be supported by a written statement from a student, or parent, if the student is a minor, explaining their objection to being immunized based on religious beliefs. Note, NYIT reserves the right to request supporting documentation.

Medical exemptions must be supported by a written statement from a New York State licensed physician, nurse practitioner or physician's assistant indicating the medical reason for the exemption.

(5) Where can I go to be immunized if I cannot afford the cost to go to a private health care provider?

A student may go to the Department of Health in the county they reside, or the county where the college resides to be immunized. In Manhattan, Brooklyn or Queens please check the New York City Immunization Walk-In Clinic Website. It is important to note however, that this process requires time and should be done as soon as possible, prior to registering for classes.

(6) I heard there is a clinic on campus where I can be vaccinated, is this true? Is there a cost for this service? Do I need to make an appointment?

Yes. There is a NYCOM clinic on both the Old Westbury and Central Islip campuses where you can receive the MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) vaccination for $50.00.
