Getting a Refund

Tuition Refunds

If you are owed money from NYIT —- for overpayment on a bill, if a class is cancelled, or for any other reason — you have the option of receiving a refund check or a debit card. To choose the refund option you wish to receive and to learn more about the debit card, please visit NYITConnect. Once on the NYITConnect page, the student will click the "EBills, IRS Forms 1098T, Refunds" link, and then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on "Click Here to Access the Student Portal to View EBills, IRS 1098T Forms, Refunds" link.

NOTE: This is the same portal you have been accessing to receive your tax forms.

If you paid by credit card, a refund will be issued to the credit card account provided that the payment was made within 30 days of the date of the refund issuance. Refunds cannot be given to you in person, even if you paid your bill in cash.

Your refund will not be generated automatically. You must fill out a Refund Request Form, even though you may receive a statement indicating that a refund is due. Download and print the Refund Request Form, which you must fill out completely and return by mail, fax, or in person to one of the Office of the Bursar locations.

Federal Student Aid and Refunds

Important Note: If a credit balance results from the posting of Title IV federal student aid -- such as Pell, SEOG, ACS, SMART, Stafford, and Perkins loans or grants -- a refund will be automatically generated within 14 days in compliance with federal regulations. A credit balance due to a Parent PLUS Loan will be refunded to the parent borrower.

If you or the Parent PLUS Loan borrower choose to apply the credit from federal funds to another semester or to pay noninstitutional charges, you must complete the Bursar Authorization Form, and follow the instruction. Parent borrowers must complete the Parent PLUS Loan Bursar Authorization Form. Student borrowers must complete the Student Title IV Bursar Authorization Form.
