Summer English Language Institute for High School Seniors

NYIT's English Language Institute is offering an ESL summer program for high school students. It combines instruction in English as a second language with creative expression and exploration of attractions in New York City and on Long Island.

Summer High School ESL Program
The six-week summer program begins on Monday, July 7, 2008, and ends on Friday, Aug. 15, 2008. Every Wednesday, students travel to attractions in the New York City metropolitan area. All activities are supervised by an energetic staff of qualified instructors who hold advanced degrees and have experience teaching ESL students.
Schedule
- 9 - 11 a.m. - Reading
- 11:15 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. - Writing
- 1:15 - 2:15 p.m. - Lunch provided on campus, not on trips
- 2:15 - 4 p.m.
- American Culture (Mondays): Guest lectures and demonstrations about music, dance, fashion, art, food, and politics, as well as feature films that reveal characteristics of American culture.
- Computer Club (Tuesdays and Thursdays): Students have access to software in pronunciation, grammar, math, graphics, photography, writing, and multimedia production. They can produce a newsletter, literary magazine, Website, or video.
- Café American (Fridays): Discussion of week's activities and forthcoming events; student presentations (newsletter, photos, videos, speeches).
Wednesday Trips
Lunches - Unless otherwise noted, lunches on Wednesday trips are paid for by the students.
- Baseball game
- Broadway show, lunch at Elaine's with singing waiters/waitresses
- Circle Line Cruise, lunch in Little Italy
- Old Bethpage Restoration Village, picnic lunch (lunch provided by NYIT's Culinary Arts Center)
- Metropolitan Museum of Art
- End-of-summer party at NYIT's de Seversky Center (tour, cooking class, lunch provided)
Fees
- There is a $50 non-refundable application fee payable when the application form is submitted.
- Tuition is $2,100 per student, which includes hot and cold buffet lunches four days a week and two additional lunches on Wednesdays.
- Transportation from Old Westbury campus to metropolitan area attractions is included.
- Transportation to and from campus is not provided by NYIT; parking is available on campus.
