Assessment 301: Outcomes Measurement and Assessments

This workshop will provide guidance in creating authentic assessments that are aligned to program objectives and student learning outcomes within a course. A variety of instruments for assessment will be illustrated and discussed.  By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Use a “backwards design” model to plan an assessment instrument.
  2. Create an assessment instrument matched to student learning outcomes.
  3. Design a keystone assignment to assess student learning outcomes.
  4. Develop a rubric to evaluate a project or assignment matched to student learning outcomes.
  5. Use data management tools to gather student outcome results.

 All sessions are offered during Free Hour (12:30 - 1:50 p.m.)

Assessment 401: Analysis, Action, and Reassessment

This workshop will close the loop for the assessment cycle. Participants will learn to use data for course and program evaluation. Data analysis techniques will illustrate how student learning outcomes data can be used to inform instruction and improve teaching and learning.  By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Analyze a set of data to identify trends in student performance.
  2. Use data to identify weak areas of student performance.
  3. Develop a strategy to address an identified weakness.
  4. Design a plan to reassess performance data after treatment .

 All sessions are offered during Free Hour (12:30 - 1:50 p.m.)
