Danielle Apfelbaum, librarian I at NYIT-Old Westbury, presented "An Introduction to Prezi," and Sebastien Marion, librarian III, presented "Mind Mapping: Towards Patterns for Learning" on April 27 at the 41st Annual Nassau County Library Association Continuing Education Conference in Brookville, N.Y.

Nicholas Dagen Bloom, Ph.D., associate professor, chairperson of interdisciplinary studies, and director of the NYIT Core Curriculum, published the April 25 editorial, "Culture War on the Hudson," in Newsday, one of the first in the newspaper's Westchester edition. Read more.

Eduard I. Dedkov, M.D., Ph.D., assistant professor of biomedical sciences, presented the research poster, "Structural Composition of Myocardial Infarction Scar Does Not Differ Between Male and Female Middle-Aged Rats," at the 2012 Experimental Biology Meeting, April 21-25 in San Diego, Calif. The meeting abstract was published in the April 2012 issue of the Journal of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology. Read more.

Donna Dixon, Ph.D., associate professor of biomedical sciences, published the research article, "Prediction of Osteopathic Medical School Performance on the Basis of MCAT Score, GPA, Sex, Undergraduate Major, and Undergraduate Institution," in the April 2012 issue of the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association. Jeffrey Feinsilver, reference librarian at NYIT-Old Westbury, presented the program, "Protecting Privacy in a World of Mobile Apps and Social Networks," sponsored by the Intellectual Freedom Committees of the Nassau and Suffolk County Library Associations, on May 3 at the Long Island Library Conference in Melville, N.Y.

Gail Feinzig, adjunct professor of English, is the recipient of the inaugural East Coast Conference Faculty Appreciation Award for her support of intercollegiate athletics and student-athletes at NYIT. Read more.

John Hanc, associate professor of communication arts, wrote the May 2 New York Times article, "Massage Spas, New Oases for the Harried Flier." Read more.

Tobias Holler, assistant professor of architecture, is the faculty co-leader for a team of NYIT architecture and engineering students who raised more than $15,000 and counting in two weeks to fund their trip to Costa Rica this summer to build a recycling and education center. Read more.

Sharon Koehler, D.O.

Sharon Koehler, D.O., assistant professor of medicine, presented information about breast health at the April 28 annual symposium on women's wellness of the Global Associates for Health Development (GAHD) in New York. Pictured is Koehler receiving GAHD's congratulatory plaque for humanitarian service. The symposium was videotaped and will be shared with women in Ghana.

Keh Kwek, assistant professor of management at NYIT-Nanjing, was honored with the Jiangsu Province May 1st Labor Day Honor Award "for the outstanding contributions made in the economic construction and development of social undertakings of Jiangsu Province." Among the 48 award-winners, he was the only one from a university in the Jiangsu Province.

Satyen Rawal, project manager of design and construction at NYIT-Old Westbury, completed professional certification on April 22 in LEED AP building design and construction from the Green Building Certification Institute.

Lois Small, project manager for educational grants at NYIT's College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYCOM); Mary Ann Achtziger, associate dean of NYCOM student affairs; and Ronald Portanova, Ph.D., professor and associate dean of NYCOM academic affairs, presented the poster, "Project Advance: Making Positive Strides Through Medical Education for Prevention and Change," at the Osteopathic Medicine Annual Meeting, March 28-31 in Washington, D.C. Their presentation discussed how NYIT's Health Careers Opportunity Program, managed by Small and funded by a federal grant, is successfully preparing students from diverse backgrounds for the health care workforce.

Tobi A. Abramson, Ph.D., assistant professor of mental health counseling and director of the NYIT Center for Gerontology and Geriatrics, presented the invited symposia, "Clinical Interventions in Group Therapy Models" and "Clinical Interventions for Cooling the Flames: The Role of Mindfulness in Addressing Anger," at the annual Aging in America Conference, March 28-April 1 in Washington, D.C.

In addition, Abramson presented the conference workshop, "Paying It Forward and Honoring the Past: The Reciprocal Value of Mentoring."

Carol Dahir, Ed.D., professor and chairperson of School Counseling, and Kate O'Hara, Ph.D., assistant professor of instructional technology, presented papers at the symposium, "Breaking the Mold of Tradition: A Broader View of Diversity," April 14 at the 2012 American Educational Research Association Conference in Vancouver, Canada. O'Hara presented "Window Dressing the Urban Classroom: Exploring Technology, Diversity, and Economics," and Dahir presented "Supporting Diverse Student Populations through Cultural Immersion."

Leonard B. Goldstein, Ph.D., D.D.S., associate professor of family medicine and director of clerkship education for NYIT's College of Osteopathic Medicine, published a review of the textbook, Prosthetic Rehabilitation Part II: Technical Procedures, in the March 2012 issue of the New York State Dental Journal.

Jaime E. Martinez, Ph.D., assistant professor of instructional technology, participated in the symposium, "Creating the New Play Agenda: Bringing Together Research, Practice, and Advocacy to Support Human Development and Learning," April 16 at the business meeting of the Cultural-Historical Special Interest Group at the 2012 American Educational Research Association Conference in Vancouver, Canada.

Michael Schiavi, Ph.D., professor of English, gave a reading and signing for his book, Celluloid Activist: The Life and Times of Vito Russo, April 19 at the John D. Calandra Institute for Italian-American Studies in New York City.

Alexander Shakal, maintenance electrician at NYIT and volunteer firefighter in Glen Cove, N.Y., received the Nassau County Medal of Valor on April 25 from the Nassau County Fire Commission for helping to rescue a woman from a house fire in February 2011.

April 2012

Brian Lee Beatty, Ph.D., assistant professor of anatomy, was interviewed on the blog, The Open Source Paleontologist, about the Dental Microwear Image Library he assembled with Matthew Mihlbachler, Ph.D., associate professor of anatomy. Read more.

Francine Glazer, Ph.D., assistant provost and director of the Center for Teaching and Learning, had the introduction to her book, Blended Learning: Across the Disciplines, Across the Academy, selected for distribution by the Tomorrow's Professor listserv and blog, which is published biweekly and sent to nearly 40,000 subscribers at more than 700 institutions and organizations in over 100 countries around the world.

Hui-Yin Hsu, Ph.D., associate professor of teacher education, Shiang-Kwei Wang, Ph.D., associate professor of instructional technology, and Lisa Runco, Ph.D., assistant professor of life sciences, presented the paper, "Investigation of Middle School Science Teachers' Preparedness to Practice New Literacies," and the poster session, "Teachers' Self-Efficacy in Teaching Science as Inquiry and their Classroom Practices," at the 2012 American Educational Research Association annual conference, April 16-17 in Vancouver, Canada.

Sarah Meyland, J.D., associate professor of environmental technology and director of the NYIT Center for Water Resources Management, wrote the April 17 Newsday commentary, "Leaky Water Policy Will Hurt LI," about the need for a comprehensive water management authority on Long Island. Read more.

Bhuall Nand Kumar, Ph.D., associate adjunct professor of life sciences, is a member of the Society of Biology and has been admitted as a European Professional Biologist for 2012-2015 in recognition of his professional contributions.

Ernst O. VanBergeijk, Ph.D., associate dean and executive director of the Vocational Independence Program of NYIT, presented the paper, "Transitional Programs," at Moving On: Preparing Students with Autism, Asperger's, and Learning Differences for College Conference, April 22 at Yale University School of Medicine Child Study Center.

Susana H. Case, Ph.D., professor and NYIT-Manhattan program coordinator for behavioral sciences, was quoted in the April 11 Washington Square News article, "NYU Community Reacts to Google's Augmented Reality Glasses Project." Read the article.

Leonard B. Goldstein, D.D.S., Ph.D., associate professor of family medicine and director of clerkship education for NYIT's College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Eera Jain, OMS IV, published their article, "Pain Management in Diabetic Neuropathy," in the April 2012 issue of Practical Pain Management.

John Hyde, dean of career services, was quoted in an April 6 Long Island Business News article about temporary hiring that leads to full-time permanent positions. He detailed NYIT's Internship Certificate Program and explained the internship-to-hire trends in employment.

Barbara Multari, director of international education, and Karen Johnson, associate director of international education, accompanied three NYIT international students—Abishek Dileep Kumar (India), Samprada Shrestha (Nepal), and Ab Zemirline (Island of Comoros)—to raise cultural awareness on a March 22 visit to a kindergarten class at Briarcliff Elementary School in Shoreham-Wading River, N.Y.

Charles Pavia, Ph.D., associate professor of biomedical sciences, presented a research poster, "Use of Short Course Intramuscular Versus Topical Antibiotic Treatment for Curing Experimental Borrelia Burgdorferi Infection in Mice," at the European Conference of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, March 31-April 3 in London, England.

Michael Uttendorfer, dean of the School of Education, and Chellappa Kumar, professor of biochemistry and chief information officer for NYIT's College of Osteopathic Medicine, were quoted in the April 6 Long Island Business News article, "Turning Teaching Topsy-Turvy," about the "flipped classroom" model of teaching.

Shiang-Kwei Wang, associate professor of instructional technology, was profiled in the April 6 Long Island Business News column "Ones to Watch in Education." Wang's profile detailed her focus on the integration of technology in learning settings.

Nada Anid, Ph.D., dean of the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences, was named one of the Top 50 Most Influential Women in Business by Long Island Business News. This is the second time she has been honored with this distinction.

Amy Bravo, director of experiential education, co-presented "Ethical and Logistical Implications of Requiring Service Learning in One Section of a First-Year Critical Thinking Core Curriculum Course," March 30 at the 4th Annual NYMAPS Symposium on Ethics and Service Learning: Best Practices for Empowering Community Partners and Educating Students. Her co-presenters included NYIT students Liliya Bakibayeva (advertising, public relations, and marketing) and Marty Magaan (computer science), and Diosdado Gica, executive director of the International YMCA/New Americans Initiative.

Dolores Burton, Ed.D., associate professor of education and chair of teacher education, and John Kappenberg, Ed.D., adjunct associate professor of education, presented "Implementing RTI: One Tech Byte at a Time" on March 12 at the 14th Annual Conference of Suffolk ASSET: Rebooting Education Common Core 2.0.in Melville, N.Y.

Susana H. Case, Ph.D., professor and NYIT-Manhattan program coordinator for behavioral sciences, published two poems in the book, Token Entry: New York City Subway Poems. Read more.

Paul Cavanagh, Ph.D., director of academics and evaluation for the Vocational Independence Program (VIP) of NYIT, and Ernst VanBergeijk, Ph.D., associate dean and executive director of VIP, co-published the article, "Comprehensive Transition and Post-Secondary Programs: An Emerging Model for Transitioning Individuals with ASDs to Adulthood," in the spring 2012 edition of Autism Spectrum News. Samy Nathan Garas, Ph.D., assistant professor of accounting at NYIT-Bahrain, has achieved certification as a public accountant (C.P.A.), anti-money laundering specialist (C.A.M.S.), internal auditor (C.I.A.), and certified fraud examiner (C.F.E.)

In addition, Garas has published the article, "The Control of the Shari'a Supervisory Board in the Islamic Financial Institutions," in the 2012 issue of the International Journal of Islamic and Middle Eastern Finance and Management.

Faculty members from NYIT's College of Osteopathic Medicine, including Abraham M. Jeger, Ph.D., associate dean for clinical education, and Leonard B. Goldstein, Ph.D., director of clerkship education, presented the lectures, "An Accelerated D.O./Family Medicine Residency Continuum: Planning and Development" and "Enhancing the Transition from Pre-Clinical to Clinical/Clerkship Education," at the 2012 national meeting of the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine in Washington, D.C.

In addition, they co-authored the conference poster, "Retrospective Analysis on the Relationships of Clerkship Assignment and Selection and Residency Match Outcomes," with Doreen Meinberg, coordinator of education evaluation, and Stacey Elliot, OMS IV. The poster was selected for possible publication by the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association.

Susan Neville, Ph.D., R.N., associate professor and chairperson of the Department of Nursing, is the command staff board member for the Nassau County Department of Health Medical Reserve Corps and represents NYIT on a four-person team supporting the Nassau Center for Health Initiatives (NCHI) leadership program, "Health Checks." Her team, one of only 20 selected from across the country, includes members from the Department of Health, NCHI, and the Applied Science Foundation for Homeland Security, who will work together to address health disparities and emergency preparedness in communities with the greatest health needs.

Mike Nolan, associate professor of architecture, has produced "Lookout Science," the second of a 10-part series of sci-fi music videos released on April 2 on USAToday.com. Read more.

Steven J. Shapiro, Ph.D., professor of finance, presented the paper, "Stationarity of Ibbotson Associates Equity Risk Premiums," at the Eastern Economic Association Annual Conference, March 10 in Boston.

Artists Michelle Posner-Stylianou and her husband, Stelios, have re-opened Studio E, an art education center in Miller Place, N.Y. Read more.

Susana H. Case, Ph.D., professor and NYIT-Manhattan program coordinator for behavioral sciences, read from her book, Manual of Practical Sexual Advice, at the Cornelia Street Cafe in New York City.

Terese Coe, adjunct professor of English, published a translation of Bertolt Brecht's "Pirate Jenny" in the literary journal, The Raintown Review, and the poem "Sponge" in the spring 2012 issue of the annual arts and ideas journal Stone Canoe. Read "Sponge."

In addition, six more of Coe's poems are forthcoming this year in international publications: The Warwick Review and New Walk (United Kingdom), The Stinging Fly (Ireland), and The Raintown Review and Per Contra (United States).

Elizabeth J. Donaldson, Ph.D., associate professor of English, has been appointed to a three-year term on the Committee on Disability Issues in the Profession by the Executive Council of the Modern Language Association. The committee considers the needs and interests of scholars with disabilities as well as issues on scholarship in the field of disability studies.

James Dunne, J.D., assistant professor of management, accompanied the NYIT-Old Westbury Chapter of the Society of Hosteurs on a March 8 tour of the Oheka Castle, Long Island's only five-diamond-rated facility, in Huntington, N.Y. The group also met with the Oheka management team, including operations, public relations, and marketing professionals.

Anthony Errichetti, Ph.D., professor and chief of virtual medicine, presented the keynote address, "Ensuring Patient Safety Through Standardized Patient and Mannequin Simulations," at the Association for Excellence in Medical Education 2012 Conference, March 3-5 in Islamabad, Pakistan. He also participated in a workshop on feedback and debriefing for simulations.

In addition, Errichetti lectured on debriefing standardized patient and mannequin-based simulations at the Foundation for the Advancement of International Medical Education and Research Conference, March 9-13 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Julie Fratrik, director of the NYIT Center for Global Exchange, participated in Advocacy Day, March 20-21 in Washington, D.C. Sponsored by NAFSA: Association of International Educators, the two-day workshop provided advocacy training on issues related to international education. Fratrik also met with Congressional staff to advocate for support of the Paul Simon Study Abroad Act and for comprehensive immigration reform to maximize benefits for international students.

Wolfgang Gilliar, D.O., professor and chair of the Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM), and Michael Terzella, D.O., assistant professor of OMM, served on the international judging panel for the Louisa Burns Osteopathic Poster Competition, March 21-25 at the American Academy of Osteopathy's annual convocation in Louisville, Ky.

In addition, Gilliar and Sheldon Yao, D.O., assistant professor of OMM, were quoted in the Jan. 13 article, "Osteopathic Treatments Help Patients in Pain," on HealthNewsDigest.com. Read more.

John Handrakis, D.P.T., Ed.D., associate professor of physical therapy, and Karen Friel, D.H.Sc., associate professor and chair of the Department of Physical Therapy, had their research manuscript, "Key Characteristics of Low Back Pain and Disability in College-Aged Adults: A Pilot Study," accepted for publication in Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Francy Magee, dean of campus life, presented three sessions at the annual convention meeting of the ACPA - College Student Educators International, March 24-28 in Louisville, Ky., including: "Networking Senior Student Affairs Officers: Building a Community, Building a Profession," "Seasons of a Student Affairs Professional's Career: Developing a Theory," and "Planning, Developing, and Managing Budgets? No Sweat!"

Terry Nauheim Goodman, associate professor of fine arts, exhibited her artwork in the group show, "Pathway: Drawing In, On, and Through the Landscape," March 29-April 1 during the "Drawing Now" contemporary art fair in Paris.

Jacquelyn Nealon, Ed.D., vice president for enrollment, communications and marketing, served as an expert panelist for the CBS Radio presentation, "The Business of Getting Into College," March 31 in New York City. She also presented two breakout sessions on financial aid.

Michael Schiavi, Ph.D., professor of English and coordinator of ESL, was quoted in a March 16 New York Times article, "Keepers of the Gay Film Legacy." Read more.

Rozina Vavetsi, associate professor of graphic design, displayed "Languages of the World" at the Visualizing Information Technology exhibition at the Museum of Science and Industry, March 17-21 in Tampa, Fla.

Erin Vlasak, director of student services for the Vocational Independence Program (VIP) of NYIT, and Walter Mayer, coordinator of residential life for VIP, co-authored the two-part article, "When a Student with Autism Goes to College," on i-StudentAdvisor.com. Read Part 1 and Part 2.

In addition, Vlasak published the article, "Transitioning Your Student to a Residence Hall Environment," in EP Magazine.

March 2012

Babak D. Beheshti, assistant dean and associate professor of electrical and computer engineering technology, presented the March 11 talk, "Strategic Planning for Geographic Units," at the IEEE Region 1 Student Conference and Board of Governors Meeting in Hartford, Conn.

Catherine Bernard, associate professor of English, published a letter on March 11 in The New York Times. Read more.

Dolores Burton, Ed.D., associate professor of education and chair of teacher education, has returned from completing a Fulbright project at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. Her book, The Complete Guide to RTI: An Implementation Toolkit, co-authored with John Kappenberg, Ed.D., adjunct associate professor of education, was used as a framework to revise curriculum and instruction to increase retention and achievement for the university's freshman cohort.

Sumit Chakravarty, Ph.D., assistant professor of computer and electrical engineering at NYIT-Nanjing, was invited to present two papers at the 2012 Society of Photographic Instrumentation Engineers' Defense, Security and Sensing Conference, April 23-27 in Baltimore, Md. They are "A Manifold Learning Based Identification of Latent Variations in Root Cross Sections of Plants" and "Retinal Image Analysis for Quantification of Ocular Disease."

Anthony DiMatteo, professor of English, gave the lecture, "A Black Matter for the King: From Virgil's Baldric to Shakespeare's Gage," on March 9 at the New College of Florida's Medieval and Renaissance Conference.

Theodore Flaum, D.O., assistant professor of osteopathic manipulative medicine, was named an honorary fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) during its Annual Conclave of Fellows Award Ceremony, March 17 at the ACOFP 49th Annual Convention and Scientific Seminar in Kissimmee, Fla.

Leonard B. Goldstein, Ph.D., director of clerkship education for NYIT's College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Nayeema Chowdhury, OMS-IV, published the article, "Diagnosis and Management of Myofascial Pain Syndrome," in the March 2012 issue of Practical Pain Management.

The book, Not Dead Yet, by John Hanc, associate professor of communication arts, has won honorable mention in the category of memoir/autobiography in the 2012 American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA) annual writing competition. This is Hanc's second ASJA award.

Lawrence Herman, associate professor and director of physician assistant admissions and primary care initiatives, participated in a listening session hosted by the American Academy of Physician Assistants on March 7 at NYIT. Read more.

Tobias Holler, assistant professor of architecture, had his Attain This! project featured on the Build a Better Burb website. The project entails the design of an affordable, ultra-low energy home to be built in Deer Park, N.Y. Read more.

William Marchand, director of facilities operations, and Michael Scarpa-Burnett, associate dean of campus life, were honored by the North Shore Rotary Club on March 14 in Old Brookville, N.Y., for their humanitarian efforts in support of the Catskills (N.Y.) Hurricane Fund during the fall 2011 semester.

Birasnav Muthuraj, Ph.D., assistant professor of management studies at NYIT-Bahrain, chaired a session and presented the paper, "Knowledge Management and Human Capital Benefits: An Empirical Study," at the 3rd International Conference on Business and Economic Research, March 12-13 in Bandung, Indonesia.

Michael Schiavi, Ph.D., professor of English and coordinator of ESL, has been nominated for a 2012 Lambda Literary Award (LLA) in the category of gay memoir/ biography for his book, Celluloid Activist: The Life and Times of Vito Russo. The LLA is the highest honor given in the field of lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender literature. Read more.

Shiang-Kwei Wang, Ph.D., associate professor of instructional technology, and Hui-Yin Hsu, Ph.D., associate professor of teacher education, presented the paper, "Enhancing Scientific Inquiry and Practicing New Literacies Skills Through ICTs and Mobile Devices," at the 2012 Mobile Learning International Conference sponsored by the International Association for Development of the Information Society, March 11-13 in Berlin, Germany.

James Wiesenfeld, professor of architecture, served as technical advisor for and appears in the Pangolin Pictures production, Built to Last, which will air on the Weather Channel later this year.

NYIT faculty members planned four inter-professional, high-fidelity simulation sessions for students in nursing, physician assistant studies, and medicine on March 5-12 at NYIT's Institute for Clinical Competence (ICC). The sessions, which focused on building teamwork capacity and promoting safe and effective team communication, were facilitated by:

  • Lisa Sparacino, Ph.D., nursing instructor.
  • Barbara Wighton, nursing laboratory supervisor.

  • Barbara Piccirillo, assistant professor of physician assistant studies.

Faycal Ben Adda, Ph.D., associate professor of mathematics at NYIT-Bahrain, was featured in the Tunisian newspaper, Sabah, for his research, "The Universe Accelerating Expansion: a Counterexample."

John Hanc, associate professor of communication arts, published the March 7 article, "To Fall Asleep, Get Off the Couch," in the retirement special section of The New York Times. Read more.

Yuko Oda, assistant professor of fine arts and founding organizer of NYIT's "We Are One" art fundraiser, participated in memorial ceremonies, March 10-11 in Manhattan and Brooklyn. The events commemorated the one-year anniversary of the March 11, 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

Rozina Vavetsi, associate professor of graphic design, presented a five-day workshop on information design at the École de Communication Visuelle in Paris, France. Through a series of lectures and hands-on workshops, she worked with students to investigate some of the non-obvious, information-rich, and real-world manifestations of graphic design.

Cecilia Dong, Ph.D., assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, accompanied a group of NYIT students on a March 3 trip to the Intrepid Museum in New York City for the Girls in Science and Engineering Weekend. The group presented engineering design projects and demonstrated LEGO robots.

Susan Neville, Ph.D., R.N., associate professor and chairperson of the NYIT Department of Nursing, is a member of the Command Staff of the Nassau County Department of Health Medical Reserve Corps. On Feb. 28, she completed training in the emergency response roles and core functions of the Strategic National Stockpile Plan for Medication and Treatment Responses to Mass Casualty Incidences.

In addition, Neville has been appointed to the System Nursing Research and Evidenced Based Practice Council of the Institute for Nursing at North Shore/LIJ Health Care Systems in New York.

Robert Neumann, sous chef at the NYIT de Seversky Mansion, obtained Pro Chef II Certification at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in Hyde Park, N.Y. This certification is recognized as the equivalent of chef de cuisine training by the CIA and American Culinary Federation.

Lawrence Herman, associate professor and director of physician assistant admissions and primary care initiatives, published the article, "Perceptions of Physician Assistants Regarding Direct-to-Consumer Advertising," in the February 2012 edition of the Journal of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. A. Martin Gerdes, Ph.D., professor and chair of biomedical sciences for NYIT's College of Osteopathic Medicine, was quoted in Newsday about the health benefits of omega-3 fatty acids commonly found in fish oil. Jason Van Nest, assistant professor of architecture, oversaw a student project involving the design of a building information model for Grant's Tomb, also known as the General Grant National Memorial in Riverside Park, New York City. John Hanc, associate professor of communication arts, published the book, Organize Your Mind, Organize Your Life, about using the latest understanding of the way the brain works to minimize distractions and gain more focus.

Peter Harris, professor and chair of NYIT's department of accounting and finance, was honored with the position of Subject Matter Expert in the financial reporting analysis topic area of the Chartered Financial Analyst examination.

Tom Jacobs, assistant professor of English, wrote the article, "Recollecting and Repeating: Or, Kierkegaard vs. Benjamin Franklin," which was a featured philosophy link on the New York Times' Opinionator blog. Read more.
