Old Westbury and New York, N.Y.  (March 7, 2012) – NYIT engineering students will join their counterparts across the country in a social media campaign and national pep rally next week as part of a campaign to encourage students to stay with their academic programs and continue their pursuit of engineering degrees.

As part of the Stay With It campaign on March 14, engineering students in Old Westbury and Manhattan will gather from 1 pm to 3 pm for networking and project showcases.  From 3 pm - 4 pm, they will participate in a live Facebook webcast featuring panel discussions with corporate leaders and successful engineers. Television personality Montel Williams, an engineer, will host the webcast.  Panelists who will share personal stories include Paul Otellini, President & CEO of Intel Corporation, executives from Facebook, Google, and Comcast, and Charles Bolden, former astronaut and NASA Administrator. National organizers of the event plan to present a special message from President Barack Obama.

The Old Westbury event will be held in the Harry Schure Hall auditorium (Room 130) while Manhattan students will meet in room 701 at 1855 Broadway.   The event also includes free food and raffles.
NYIT’s participation in the event grew out of Dean Nada M. Anid’s attendance at a recent White House reception on engineering education, hosted by the President's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness.  The event celebrated engineering deans for their excellence and commitment to educate more engineers. The Stay With It campaign seeks to encourage 10,000 additional engineering graduates in the United States each year to boost competitiveness and innovation.
