Stay With It Event Facebook Event Opened to All NYIT Students

Old Westbury and New York, N.Y.  (March 13, 2012) –  As engineering students gather tomorrow for a special event to encourage them to complete their academic schooling, the dean of NYIT’s School of Engineering and Computing Sciences has invited all university students to the “Stay With It” program sponsored by the U.S. Jobs Council.

Starting at 1 pm, the “Stay With It” event on both New York campuses will include showcases of engineering student projects.  At 3 pm a live Facebook webcast will feature panel discussions and a question and answer session with corporate leaders and successful engineers.
“This is a push to reduce student attrition in all majors not just engineering, and we want all NYIT students to hear words of encouragement from President Obama himself and success stories from leaders at Google, Intel, Facebook,” said Dean Nada Marie Anid.  “We’re calling everyone to join us at this special social media event.”
The Old Westbury event will be held in the Harry Schure Hall auditorium (Room 130) while Manhattan students will meet in room 701 at 1855 Broadway.   The event also includes free food and raffles for prizes, including a laptop and a binary clock.
NYIT is the only New York-based university participating in the event.  NYIT’s participation grew out of Anid’s attendance at a recent White House reception on engineering education hosted by the President's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness.  The event celebrated engineering deans for their excellence and commitment to educate more engineers. The “Stay With It” campaign seeks to encourage 10,000 additional engineering graduates in the United States each year to boost competitiveness and innovation.
