NYIT's Patrons of the Arts Sponsors Free Concerts Spring Cultural Arts Line-Up Announced

Old Westbury, N.Y. (January 19, 2010)- New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) Patrons of the Arts is pleased to announce the spring 2010 cultural arts line-up. All performances are free and take place at NYIT's Old Westbury, N.Y. campus, located on Northern Boulevard, one mile east of Glen Cove Road. Seating is on a first-come basis. GREAT SOUNDS OF JAZZ - Celebrating Black History Month
Featuring the Shenole Latimer Quartet
In celebration of Black History Month, this program will feature a quartet led by saxophonist and composer Shenole Latimer, who's been called a "sonic marvel" and "young jazz star on the rise" by jazz insiders. The winner of the prestigious Louis Armstrong Award when he was in his teens, Latimer offers memorable performances that combine original music with jazz standards.

GREAT SOUNDS OF JAZZ - Featuring the Bob Cantwell Jazz Quartet
Bob Cantwell, founder and leader of the group, not only plays the trumpet but also sings traditional jazz classics.

POLEZHAYEV FAMILY SPRING CONCERT
This special program features music arranged for four hands/one piano by Vladimir and Yelena Polezhayev. Their two sons will also perform: Anton is a violinist-virtuoso and winner of international competitions in France and Italy; Simon plays the double bass and is a scholarship student at the Juilliard School of Music.

Thursday, April 15
NYIT Sports Complex, Noon - 2 p.m.
INTERGENERATION DAY
NYIT students and senior citizens from the community come together for an afternoon of music and dancing to the Big Band sound of Eddie Harris. This popular annual event also features a special lecture by NYIT Professor of Social Science King Cheek. Sponsored by NYIT Patrons of the Arts.

GREAT SOUNDS OF JAZZ - Featuring Ronny Whyte Quartet
Ronny Whyte, jazz pianist and songwriter, brings his quartet and unique sound to NYIT.
