NYIT Welcomes New Members to the Board of Trustees

Old Westbury and New York, N.Y. (January 20, 2012) – An international executive in the nuclear and financial industries and an architect have joined the Board of Trustees of New York Institute of Technology (NYIT).

NYIT’s newest board members are Lady Barbara Judge, CBE, chairman of the Pension Protection Fund in the United Kingdom and chairman emeritus of the U.K. Atomic Energy Authority, and NYIT alumnus Peter. J. Romano (B.S. ’76), founder and CEO of Peter J. Romano & Co., a management consulting and land development firm.

“We are proud to welcome two highly respected business and community leaders,” said NYIT Board of Trustees Chairperson Linda Davila (B.S. ’78), first vice president of investments at Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management. “They have been long-time supporters of NYIT and will be invaluable resources and additions to our board as we work toward new initiatives.”

A successful lawyer and businesswoman, Lady Barbara Judge, CBE, was awarded Commander of the Order British Empire in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2010 for services to the nuclear and financial services industries. In addition to her current positions, Lady Judge serves as chairman of The Energy Institute of University College London, and a business ambassador for the U.K. Among other roles, she is a non-executive director of Statoil ASA, the largest oil and gas company in Norway; NV Bekaert SA, the world’s largest manufacturer of high quality steel wire in Belgium; and Magna International Inc., a leading supplier of advanced automotive systems in Canada. In 1980, she was appointed by the president as a Commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and Juris Doctor with honors from New York University Law School.

Peter J. Romano specializes in the development, management, and implementation of projects in the health care sector. Prior to starting his own consulting firm in Pelham, NY, Romano led architectural projects at firms including Caretsky and Associates and Mason DaSilva and Associates. He and his wife, Jane, established an endowed scholarship fund in support of students in NYIT’s School of Architecture and Design.
