New York, N.Y. (April 12, 2011) — Ten NYIT students from the Manhattan campus spent their spring break bringing clean water and composting projects to Independencia, Peru.  When not working in the field, they volunteered at a local orphanage and shared their ideas on alternative energy uses and how to maximize benefits from waste material.

“The students did an amazing job in not only representing NYIT but also being servant leaders who contribute their time and efforts to help change the world,” said project leader Jeremy Ducos, Assistant Director of Student Activities and Leadership Development.

NYIT’s first Alternative Spring Break Project was a collaboration between the Experiential Education Program in Career Services and the International YMCA.
