NYIT President Praises Blended Courses

Old Westbury, N.Y.  (July 27, 2011) ─  As faculty and staff enjoyed ice cream and summer desserts, NYIT President Edward Guiliano, Ph.D., said courses that combine online and traditional teaching are the “sweet spot” where faculty can enhance learning opportunities.
“Teaching with technology is ingrained in what we do,” President Guiliano said at the 12th annual Ice Cream Social at NYIT de Seversky Mansion.  He noted that so-called “blended courses” offer flexibility and a chance for students from different campuses to collaborate on projects and discussions.
President Guiliano also stumped the crowd of nearly 150 people with an ice cream trivia question about the two countries that, following America, have the highest per capita consumption of the frozen treat.  The answer, he revealed, is New Zealand and Denmark.
In other remarks, President Guiliano NYIT enrollment is "solid" and construction is continuing on a new building in Manhattan and expansion at the Old Westbury Student Activity Center.  He added that his future “highest capital priority” is the construction of dorms on the Old Westbury campus.
“We can attract more students if we can accommodate them in campus facilities and in housing,” he said.
