NYIT Honors Class of 2013 at NYIT-Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (May 28, 2013) — A community of friends, family, and faculty honored 50 graduates of the Class of 2013 yesterday at NYIT-Abu Dhabi’s seventh graduation ceremony.

NYIT President Edward Guiliano, Ph.D., conferred degrees on the 50 graduates gathered at the Heritage Club Theatre. Seven received M.B.A. degrees, eight earned B.F.A. degrees in interior design, and 35 earned B.S. degrees in management.

In his keynote speech, President Guiliano stressed that graduates’ investment in higher education would lead to prosperity on many fronts, both personally and professionally, and emphasized the value of connectedness in the networked 21st century. “No one moves in a straight line in a network; you move from one node to the next. You turn corners and often find surprises. Wrong turns can lead to the right endings. The more connections you have, the more paths open up and the richer your life becomes. NYIT has given you a wealth of these connections,” he stated.

“The UAE's burgeoning knowledge-based economy nurtures qualified, career-ready professionals like you who will become thought leaders in finance, trade and commerce, IT, hospitality, oil and gas, transportation, telecommunications, education and many other fields,” he said. “With your degree and critical thinking skills, you are well-positioned to take advantage of your country’s entrepreneurial growth and innovation.”

Abdulla Basuwaid, who earned his B.S. degree in business administration at NYIT-Abu Dhabi, delivered the student address to his fellow graduates. NYIT Board Chairperson Linda Davila and Director of Alumni Relations Jennifer Kelly also attended the ceremony, which was marked by cheers and applause from the graduates' families and friends.

NYIT-Abu Dhabi’s graduation follows NYIT’s 52st commencement, which celebrated 3,215 graduates on Sunday, May 19, 2013, at the Old Westbury, New York campus. In addition to its Middle East campuses, NYIT also has campuses in Canada, China, and Manhattan.
Since 2005, NYIT has offered degree programs in Abu Dhabi. The programs in Interior Design (B.F.A.), Computer Science (B.S.), and Business Administration (B.S.B.A.) have received initial accreditation by the Commission for Academics Accreditation, United Arab Emirates Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
