NYIT Faculty Researchers Compete for Grants

Old Westbury, N.Y.  (November 8, 2011)  ΜΆ  NYIT researchers are competing for $200,000 in grant funds for creative, academic, or technology-based projects as part of a yearly effort to support faculty research.

“These grants will help promote faculty scholarship, especially in cross-disciplinary research areas that have a major impact in addressing global challenges,” said Provost Dr. Rahmat A. Shoureshi.

The maximum grant award is $30,000 – five times more than previous maximum award amounts.  For the first time, larger grants can also be used over two years.  Shoureshi said preference will be given to interdisciplinary projects that are headed by teams from various schools while following agreed policies for the internal grants.  He is also encouraging projects that involve a mixture of junior and senior faculty, including NYCOM faculty and professors from global campuses.

“We are proud to support high-quality scholarship and nurture new initiatives from our faculty,” Shoureshi said.

Last year, the program funded 27 research projects. The deadline for grant applications is Tuesday, November 15 at 5 pm.  Funding decisions will be made by the end of the fall semester.
