NYIT Explores Cooperative Efforts in International Education with Project 211 Partner

Delegates from Southwestern University of Finance and Economics joined administrators at NYIT's New York campuses on August 23

Old Westbury and New York, N.Y. (Aug. 25, 2011)—Delegates from Southwestern University of Finance and Economics joined administrators at NYIT’s New York campuses on Aug. 23 to explore cooperative efforts in international education.
Following tours of the NYIT campuses in Manhattan and Old Westbury, the 10 visiting professors and administrators attended a luncheon at the de Seversky Mansion hosted by Scott Liu, Ph.D., associate dean for Global Programs in the School of Management. Later, Spencer Turkel, Ph.D., associate provost for academic affairs, presented a comparative history of higher education systems in China and the United States.
To further the discussion on the overlapping education goals of China and the United States, Provost Rahmat Shoureshi, Ph.D., answered delegates' questions regarding advanced higher education methods and learning process development.
The day’s program presented an opportunity for Southwestern University of Finance and Economics to strengthen its relationship with NYIT and better prepare its students for graduate study in business administration.
An NYIT partner institution, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics is also a member of the Chinese Ministry of Education’s “Project 211,” an elite group representing roughly 6% of China’s 1,700 higher education institutions. Project 211 members train four-fifths of doctoral students in China, and aim to cultivate top talent for national, economic, and social development strategies.
