NYIT-Vancouver is Front and Center for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games

Vancouver, British Columbia,( February 8, 2010)-NYIT’s Vancouver campus has scheduled a variety of events for students and the community at large throughout February and March in connection with the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. In addition, NYIT is proud to announce that Allison Baver (M.B.A. ’07) will be participating in the women’s short-track speed skating events at the Olympics.

Thursday, Feb. 11, 1 - 2 p.m.(Vancouver), 4 – 5 p.m. (New York)
NYIT-Vancouver Professional Enrichment Speakers Series: “Understanding Cultural Values to Establish Effective Business Relationships: Professional Enrichment Insights on Culture and the Olympics” featuringNYIT alumnusNoel Shumsky (B.S. ’69) of Shumsky Associates, LLC. Learn the essential skills of communicating and relating to people from other cultures from someone who has worked very closely with the International Olympic Planning Committee as well as other international organizations.

Feb. 11 and 12 – NYIT Vancouver Helps Paint Vancouver Red!
NYIT community members are invited to join greater Vancouver  to Paint Vancouver Red to welcome the Olympic Torch Relay on Feb. 11 and 12. Wear a red sweater, red scarf, red toque, red socks… and wave your Canadian flag as the Olympic Torch passes through our neighborhood. Cheer for the Canadian Olympic Team! More information:
Feb. 4 - 28, evenings
From NYIT-Vancouver, come witness the Vectorial elevation light up Vancouver nights; also accessible via the Internet.
Feb. 16, 2 p.m.
NYIT Outing to LiveCity Vancouver (David Lam Park and Georgia/Cambie Street)
A field trip is planned to LiveCity Yaletown, which hosts Olympic sport and cultural programming, a waterside stage, and a nightly closing show.
Feb. 24, 10 a.m.
NYIT students will visit Leonardo da Vinci: The Mechanics of Man at the Vancouver Art Gallery and enjoy full access from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to the BC Pavilion at the VAG. Enjoy this landmark exhibition of drawings by Leonardo da Vinci as well as two major outdoor installations and a survey of B.C. visual art.
March 2, 2 p.m. – NYIT Students Skate at GE Plaza (Robson Square)
Take a whirl on the newly restored ice rink (weather permitting). No skates? Rent a pair for $3 or bring your own. Robson Square also features live entertainment, sport demonstrations, light shows, and video displays.

March 10 – Experience the 2010 Cultural Olympiad
From artistic collaborations that fuse contrasting perspectives to emerging talents re-inventing the voice of contemporary Canada, the Cultural Olympiad has something for everyone with many activities that are free or affordably priced. This amazing showcase of Canadian and international arts and popular culture will feature an unparalleled variety of music, dance, theater, visual arts, film, outdoor spectaculars, and digital media experiences.
