Hurricane Preparedness for the NYIT Community

LATEST UPDATES at nyit.edu/alerts

The National Weather Service predicts that the New York metropolitan area will likely feel the effects of Hurricane Irene. The impact on our area remains uncertain, but the peak of the storm should arrive on Sunday. Campus officials are closely monitoring reports from emergency management agencies as well as state and local officials. We are taking every precaution to keep the campus community and infrastructure safe.

If you have not registered your mobile or home phone to receive messages from NYIT about emergencies -- or to make sure your information is up to date -- go to nyit.edu/alerts.

As a precaution, we suggest that before you leave campus today, please:

  • shut down all computers and other electronic and electrical equipment.
  • make sure all windows and doors are securely closed and locked.
  • be aware that wind may penetrate buildings and offices. Please secure all important items and documents as appropriate. Remove items away from windows.
  • remove any food or perishable items from office refrigerators.

NYIT-specific updates will be made:

Please look for further updates, cooperate with university officials in preparations for this potential weather event, and above all, be safe.
